Неспешно вожусь с Moblin-ом (это такой Linux от Intel-а).

http://bugzilla.moblin.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6276 , Comment #2 --------------

I also have Moblin installed on Acer Aspire One 110 with 16Gb SSD disk ( which
is known of being equally slow as 8Gb or even worse ).

My system setup is:
- AOA 110, 16Gb SSD, 1Gb RAM
- Disk is re partitioned into 2 parts: /dev/sda1 being about 12.5 Gb, fat32
filesystem, there original WindowsXP resides. /dev/sda2 about 3.5 Gb, ext2
filesystem, Moblin 2.1, updated from Moblin 2.1 Update repo.
- Additional non-Moblin packages: Midnight Commander (mc), Gstreamer-plugin-bad
and Gstreamer-plugin-ugly - all taken from Fedora 10 repos.
- no swap, no filesystem journal.

I noticed that fresh-installed Moblin 2.1 (even without above-mentioned
additional packages thrown in) is rather slow and non-responsive.

Accordingly to the TOP command output, there were 2 processes, both consuming ~
85% CPU, being bkl-orbiter and bkl-investigator (remaining 15% CPU was utilized
by the X).

After I installed those non-free Gstreamer plugins the situation became even
worse ( I can't tell the numbers but the system seemed to become slowly for me
).

After some googling I decided to
killall bkl-orbiter
and
chattr -x /usr/bin/bkl-orbiter

Apparently this rendered the "moblin media player" unusable ('coz it is the
Bickley who provides media filenames to that player), but the system
immediately became WAY more responsive and smoth.

(Sure next I had to replace moblin-media-player with Totem.)

I estimate my resulting Moblin system being almost as fast as the Windows XP +
EWF filter, the result is very good for me.

( "EWF" filter is the additional Windows driver which prevents system from
doing physical writes to SSD - I can imagine it as never ever flushing disk
cache. This is a descent way to get rid of the VERY slow SSD on Acer Aspire
netbooks, for windows users )

As for the Bikley thing - perhaps that's a revolutionary idea to not worry
about where my media files are - but it shouldn't cost me 85% CPU and/or a
buzzilions megabytes of memory. Maybe there is a descent way to force Bickley
keeping low profile? Let it doing its job IN THE BACKGROUND, I mean.
